Brief Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali City
Day 2: A short City Tour and transfer to Akagera National Park
Day 3: Morning game drive and Afternoon boat cruise
Day 4: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park
Day 5: Chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk
Day 6: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Day 7: Gorilla trekking and departure.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival to Kigali City
Arrive in Kigali City and check into a lodge or hotel where you will spend the night and have that day’s meals.
Day 2: A short City Tour and transfer to Akagera National Park
You can have a Kigali City tour to visit some iconic parts of Kigali such as the Kigali Genocide Memorial, Inema Arts Center and local markets.
Later, have a scenic drive to the East to Akagera National Park for about 3 hours, a distance of about 120 kilometers. Arrive at your booked lodge, relax and later have dinner and spend the night there.
Day 3: Morning game drive and Afternoon Boat Cruise
After breakfast at the lodge, you will go to the park so as have a morning game drive so that you can spot Elephants, Lions, Giraffes, Rhinos, Buffaloes and Leopards among others.
After lunch and some bit of relaxation, you can have a boat cruise on Lake Ihema to sight hippos and crocodiles and different water birds. Thereafter, head back to the lodge for the dinner and stay overnight.
Day 4: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
After checking out of your lodge, you will drive south to Nyungwe National Park, for a distance of about 270 kilometers and about 6 hours.
When you arrive, check into your lodge, have lunch and relax. After, you can engage in the Nyungwe canopy walk to see the park and nature from above and also a scenic view of the surroundings.
Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking and Nyungwe Canopy walk
Set out of your lodge in the morning for chimpanzee trekking experience. You will be briefed before the actual activity and then set off to find habituated chimpanzee individuals.
On sight, they will be seen vocalizing, swinging on trees, feeding, nurturing and grooming each other and many other activities these primates can do in their natural environment.
After lunch at your lodge, you will have a Nyungwe Canopy walk experience. This will involve walking on a 70 meters elevated walk way. While here, you will be able to sight birds and monkeys on tree tops, giving you a whole unique experience.
Day 6: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Check out of your lodge and transfer north to Volcanoes National Park. As you drive, you will enjoy Rwanda’s beautiful country side that offers a totally different dimension and perspective about the country.
Arrive in Kinigi and check into your booked lodge. After that, you can choose to relax of have a community visit to Iby’Iwacu village where you will learn more about ancient culture and how the gorillas, the forest and humans inter relate.
Day 7: Gorilla trekking and departure
Early in the morning, pack your belongings in the lodge, have breakfast and then set out to the park headquarters for a briefing session before the actual activity. You will then be led by a park ranger guide, don the trails of the park to seek for habituated gorilla families.
When spotted, you will be allowed only one hour with them to watching how they live their daily lives. Some activities you will see include grooming, nurturing, feeding and playing with each other and building nets for night stay.
Since you had already packed, check out of the lodge and drive back to Kigali, which will mark the end of your 7 days Rwanda Safari.
