Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali, Rwanda

Upon touching down at Kigali International Airport, guests will meet our knowledgeable host and get driven straight to their lodging in the city.

During the transfer, the guide will provide a brief introduction about Rwanda’s culture, people, tourism attractions.

After checking into the hotel, visitors will have time to freshen up and relax after their journey.

During the evening hours, they will enjoy dinner at the hotel, followed by a briefing from the tour guide about the following day’s safari to Volcanoes National Park.

Visitors will spend the night at a comfortable hotel in Kigali.

Day 2: A Journey through Kigali to Volcanoes National Park.

You will embark on an escorted exploration of Kigali right after finishing your morning meal at the hotel.

You will visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, where you will learn about the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi that claimed many lives.

The tour will then continue through the different parts of the city thus giving visitors an opportunity to observe Rwanda’s clean streets, hospitable local communities, local markets and cultural life of the Rwandese people.

Following the urban excursion, you will enjoy a midday meal in Kigali prior to heading toward Volcanoes National Park.

Upon arrival in the Volcanoes area, visitors will check into their lodge near the national park, where they will have dinner and relax.

Our tour guide will also explain the requirements for the next day’s gorilla trek and ensure that visitors have appropriate hiking clothing and equipment ready for the search.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

You will enjoy an early morning meal at the lodge prior to journeying to the Kinigi Park base, where you will sign-in and receive instructions from rangers.

They will then be grouped in groups of 8, assigned to a gorilla group and begin their trek into the forest.

During the trek in the mountains, visitors will experience Rwanda’s natural environment and search for a specific habituated mountain-gorilla family that was assigned.

Once the gorilla family is found after several hours of search, visitors will spend strictly one hour observing the silverbacks, adult females and young gorillas in their natural habitat playing, eating, resting, grooming and climbing tree branches.

Once the trek is done, visitors will return to the lodge for lunch and rest because the trek can be physically demanding and tiresome.

In the evening, they will have dinner at the lodge and prepare for the following day’s journey.

Day 4: Travel from Volcanoes National Park to Nairobi, Kenya.

After breakfast, visitors will check out of their lodge and begin their journey back to Kigali.

They will have lunch either in enroute, depending on their travel schedule.

Visitors can arrive in Nairobi, Kenya either by road or flight at the Kigali International Airport.

Upon reaching Nairobi city, you will be escorted to your accommodations by your tour guide.

The evening will be used for rest and preparation for the following day’s journey to the Maasai Mara.

Visitors will then enjoy dinner at the hotel after their relaxation and spend the night in a Nairobi hotel.

Day 5: Journey from Nairobi to Maasai Mara National Reserve.

After an early breakfast at the hotel, visitors will depart Nairobi in a safari vehicle and travel towards the Maasai Mara National Reserve for several hours.

On arrival in the Maasai Mara area, visitors will check into their safari lodge and later on have lunch.

In the afternoon, visitors will embark on their first game drive through the reserve to explore the open grasslands in search of wildlife such as wildebeest, zebras, giraffes, elephants, buffaloes, lions, cheetahs and other antelopes.

Visitors will also begin observing concentrations of wildebeest and zebras if the migration herds are in the area during their safari time.

In the evening after the game drive, visitors will return to the lodge where they will have dinner and relax while enjoying nature sounds.

Day 6: Maasai Mara – Great Migration Safari

Visitors will have an early breakfast before setting out for a full-day safari. The early morning game drive will allow them to experience the Mara while wildlife is particularly active.

The guide will search for the migrating herds and other wildlife. Visitors may see large numbers of wildebeest and zebra, together with predators such as lions, cheetahs and hyenas.

A packed lunch will be carried so that the group can spend more time in the reserve rather than returning to the lodge during the middle of the day.

The afternoon will continue with wildlife viewing and photography as the guide moves towards areas where animals are concentrated.

In the evening, visitors will return to their lodge for a hot dinner, followed by relaxation and discussion of the day’s wildlife experiences.

Day 7: Full-Day Maasai Mara Migration and Wildlife Experience

After an early breakfast, visitors will spend another full day exploring the Maasai Mara.

Having a second full day in the reserve gives the guide greater flexibility to follow wildlife movements rather than rushing from one location to another.

The morning game drive will focus on locating the migration herds and observing the interaction between herbivores and predators.

Visitors may see thousands of wildebeest and zebra moving across the grasslands, while lions, cheetahs, leopards and hyenas may be found in areas where prey is concentrated.

Visitors will have a packed lunch in the reserve, allowing them to continue their safari without losing valuable wildlife-viewing time.

During the afternoon, the guide will take visitors through different sections of the reserve, stopping at suitable viewpoints for photography and interpretation of the landscape.

The group will return to the safari lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight accommodation.

A river crossing may be witnessed if the herds are in the appropriate area, but it should not be guaranteed because the movement of wild animals depends on natural conditions and cannot be predicted precisely.

Day 8: Maasai Mara to Nairobi

Visitors will wake early for their final morning game drive in the Maasai Mara. This provides one last opportunity to see wildlife in the reserve and photograph the African sunrise over the grasslands.

They will then return to the lodge for breakfast, check out and begin the journey back to Nairobi.

Along the way, they will have lunch, either at a suitable stop or at an arranged restaurant.

On arrival in Nairobi, visitors will check into their hotel and have the remainder of the afternoon to rest after several days of safari activities. In the evening, they will enjoy dinner at the hotel and prepare for their final full day in Kenya.

Day 9: Nairobi Wildlife and Cultural Experience

After breakfast, visitors will spend the day exploring Nairobi.

Depending on the group’s interests and the time available, visitors may visit Nairobi National Park, where they can experience wildlife within a short distance of the city, or visit attractions such as the Giraffe Centre and the Karen area.

The Nairobi experience provides a contrast to the remote wilderness of the Maasai Mara by showing visitors Kenya’s capital and its combination of wildlife, culture and urban life.

Visitors will have lunch in Nairobi before continuing with shopping for locally produced crafts and souvenirs.

In the late afternoon, they will return to their hotel to rest and prepare their luggage for departure. A farewell dinner will be provided in the evening, giving the group an opportunity to reflect on the Rwanda and Kenya experiences before the end of the safari.

Day 10: Nairobi – Departure

Visitors will have their final breakfast at the hotel before checking out.

At the agreed time, their driver will collect them and transfer them to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for their departure flight.

During the transfer, the guide will assist them with the final arrangements and ensure that they arrive at the airport in sufficient time for check-in and other departure procedures.
